1. Make Use Of Positive Encouragement

It is not uncommon to find that many parents only correct their children’s mistakes but fail to praise what they have done correctly. It is a big mistake to do so because the child only gets reprimanded for wrong behaviors but at the same time his good behaviors are not being enforced!

As parents, it is vital that you do not simply scold your children when they misbehave but you should also be on the look out for their good behaviours too. This way, it will also put you in the positive light that you not only want to correct them when they misbehave but you will also appreciate it when they are behaving well.

As a mother of two, I get the privilege of observing my twins when they are with me so that I can teach them on the spot. I will not hesitate to stop my boy and will also scold him gently when he pushes his twin sister or hits her. On the other hand, on the occasions when he expresses love for his sister by hugging and kissing her or sharing his food with her on his own accord, I don’t forget to praise him excitedly too. In this way, he learns the right and wrong behaviours.

2. Allocate Personal Time For Each Child

If you want to be a successful parent, the first thing you need to do is to build strong bonds with your children and the most effective way to do so is through spending time with them individually. It does not have to be very long but you should set aside at least half an hour each day or 2 hours per week as personal time for each child. This is the period when you can talk to your kids about their day but make sure you do not get interrupted by phone calls or any other forms of distractions.

For families with very young children, personal time for them can actually be family time whereby you get to sing, play and chat together with your kids. Another way is to read stories to them before they go to sleep. Don’t forget to show your love for your children by giving them lots of love, hugs and kisses.

3. Avoid Use Of Physical Punishment

In the past, it was not uncommon for parents to use physical punishment to force the child into obeying but those were days of the past generations. In studies down, it has been found that these children who had lived in very harsh environment tend to be more aggressive and uncontrollable when they grow up to become adults. Instead of using physical punishment on your child, a much more effective child parenting model is through reasoning and love.
