How to Incorporate Rustic Furniture in Your Cabin Decor
Cabin decor is not just for resorts but for homes and apartments as well. Every home owner who wants to obtain a natural rustic style will get the furniture to go with the look he desires. The popularity of cabin decor was perhaps boosted by the need for people to leave their old homes for cheaper lodging. This design is relaxing and brings a calming feeling into any home.
Size Matters
There are times when the design of a piece of rustic furniture overwhelms the whole room and you cannot add anything else. Wooden items with ornate carvings will always be in style. If your ceilings are high, you can go for the bulkier pieces. If you use delicate pieces in a huge room, they will be overwhelmed by the room itself. Don’t put large rustic furniture pieces inside a cramped space.
Texture of the Furniture
Wood used for furniture making look aged and mature. For example, pine wood. Surface cracks often appear on pine wood to add to its beauty. There is no problem with stability even with these cracks. They serve to beautify the wood. Many hardwoods show this feature.
Good texture may also arise from peeling the bark from the log manually. The result of this process is left as is, and enough sanding is done to smoothen the piece. Rustic furniture pieces are more beautiful if they have texture.
Lacquer
Putting varnish or finishing the wood will make it last longer. Each piece of furniture is made of porous wood, which can easily absorb water and dirt. Put varnish to avoid this. Smudges can be wiped off easier if the wood is varnished. Washing off grime is also easy because you don’t have to worry about water getting logged into the wood.
Lacquer can be applied even without professional help. Once this finish is applied, the rustic furniture is very easy to clean. Indoor log furniture can be kept unfinished, but outdoor pieces need to have a film or two applied. Outdoor pieces in particular need lacquer.
