Making your backyard relaxing and inviting by encouraging birds and providing a watery center of attention
When gardeners want to create a beautiful and relaxing outdoor area, they often try to make it resemble a wilderness area while still retaining its garden atmosphere. An excellent way to achieve both the garden and the wilderness atmosphere is to bring in the garden version of what is found in the wilderness. A couple of possibilities might be bird houses and water fountains.
Birds can add infinite interest to a backyard setting; you can see them eat, observe their behavior, and, if you are fortunate, watch them raise their young. To attract a variety of birds to your garden, you need to give them there necessities: food, water, and a nesting place. For food, you want to provide some sturdy birdfeeders with a reliable supply of seeds. Birdfeeders can be either simple or more costly. If you keep the feeders full of high-quality seeds throughout the whole year, you will have birds in your garden every day. To attract birds in your garden, they need water as well as food and a place for bathing. A graceful birdbath provides this water and at the same time adds to the beauty of the outdoor surroundings. The main consideration when putting out a birdbath is that the birds need clean water. This means that you must regularly empty the water, scrub the bath, and refill it. Another nice addition is a heater for the bath so that the birds can also have water in the cold snowy months. You can apply your creativity in putting birdhouses in the garden. The first step is to know the types of birds that visit your yard. Then learn about the kinds of houses that these birds like. Then rev up your imagination and find some unique houses that will fit into your garden decor.
A popular type of wilderness area includes a source of water. It can be a small stream, a pond, or even a waterfall. Most people enjoy the sound of rushing water and find it relaxing. While the birdbath is one source of water in the yard, it is not the only possibility. There are a number of ways that you can bring the stream, pond, or waterfall into the yard. A fishpond is among the most fascinating water installations. It can give you the beauty of water, rocks, flowers, grasses, and sparkling koi fish. Family and friends can spend many enjoyable hours feeding the fish and watching them swim around in the pond. However, once you plan to create one, you must commit yourself to the job of keeping up the pond so that the fish can grow, reproduces and be healthy. A simpler solution to bring moving water into the garden is to put in a decorative waterfall. The garden waterfall is most frequently a re-circulating fountains that uses electricity and a pump for its operation. This is a major consideration in deciding where to put the waterfall. But, once installed, it will add to the ambience of the garden, and its calming water sounds will be relaxing to visitors to the garden.
