Pink, floral or neutral bedding can all work in a nursery. For a baby’s sleep space, start with the individual items and their intended use; a matching set is not evidence that every piece belongs in the cot.
Check the bundle before its colour
The Lullaby Trust advises against pillows, duvets, quilts and cot bumpers in a baby’s sleep space. The previous product list included bumper and padded-quilt bundles. We have removed those recommendations and do not provide affiliate purchase links to them.
| Item in the listing | Decision to make |
|---|---|
| Fitted sheet | Match the actual mattress’s length, width and depth. “Cot” and “cot bed” labels alone do not establish fit. |
| Waterproof protector | Check the correct size and the mattress maker’s instructions; do not use it to add padding. |
| Baby sleep bag | Check the maker’s minimum weight, neck and arm fit, and temperature guidance. Buy for the baby’s current fit. |
| Pillowcase, quilt or bumper | Do not treat inclusion in a nursery bundle as permission to use these for infant sleep. |
Sheets and sleep bags are different purchases
A sheet covers the mattress. A correctly fitted sleep bag is bedding worn by the baby. A decorative duvet cover is neither of those. Read the full contents list so you know whether the photograph shows items that are sold separately.
Spend on practical care
Compare the washing instructions and how readily you can keep a clean, correctly fitting spare available. Choose a print you like after resolving fit and use. “Organic”, “breathable” or “luxury” does not make an unsuitable bedding item suitable.
NHS advice also identifies cot bumpers as a choking, suffocation and strangulation hazard. Keep decorative items outside the baby’s sleep space. This guide does not certify a fabric, endorse the old bundles or suggest that colour changes sleep-safety requirements.
