Blue cot bedding: a guide to sheets, sizes and bundle contents

Choose blue nursery bedding by mattress fit, contents and care. Why matching cot bundles can include items that are unsuitable for infant sleep.

Research checked 2026-09-26. We have not carried out hands-on testing of this product.

Blue cot bedding ranges from a single fitted sheet to large nursery bundles. Compare the contents item by item: buying more pieces does not necessarily give you more items you can use for a baby’s sleep.

Correction to the old recommendations

Our previous article described a cot bumper as an extra layer of safety and recommended sets containing padded bumpers and quilts. That advice has been withdrawn. NHS guidance identifies cot bumpers as a hazard, while the Lullaby Trust recommends keeping pillows and bulky bedding out of a baby’s sleep space.

Build a useful shopping list

  • Start with the mattress: record its length, width and depth, then check the sheet and protector against those measurements and the maker’s instructions.
  • Read what is included: a photograph can show a complete room even when the listing supplies only a cover or sheet. Check the written pack contents.
  • Separate sleep bedding from decoration: a matching cushion, toy, padded bumper or quilt should not be added to an infant’s cot to complete the look.
  • Check care: make sure you can follow the required washing and drying instructions and have a suitable spare when needed.

Cot and cot-bed labels can mislead

A cot bed may later become a toddler bed, but the word “cot-bed” on a duvet set does not make the duvet suitable for a newborn. Match the baby’s stage, the item’s intended use and current guidance before considering the pattern.

Choosing a colour scheme

A plain blue fitted sheet can coordinate with decoration elsewhere in the room without filling the cot. If you already own a bundle, you do not need to use every piece. Keep the correctly fitting, appropriate items and leave unsuitable extras out of the sleep space.

No current bundle is recommended here. We have removed the old rankings, unsupported safety assurances and affiliate links rather than presenting an unverified nursery set as a sleep solution.
