- Look at which side the drawers and cupboards open from, and leave room in front of them.
- Confirm the mattress size and the maximum mattress depth the maker allows, especially where there is a guard rail.
- Most arrive flat-packed; allow time and two people for assembly.

What is the difference between a cabin bed and a mid sleeper?
Retailers use the names loosely. Cabin beds are usually lower, with storage built underneath. Mid sleepers sit higher, often with a ladder and a play or desk area below. Check the height and the ladder arrangement on each listing rather than relying on the name.
Do cabin beds need a special mattress?
Most take a standard UK single (90 × 190cm), but some use European sizes (90 × 200cm) or a maximum mattress depth. The retailer listing should state the size.
